The Best of Summer: Food, Fun and much more in Holt!

From Farmers Markets to Kayaking Adventures

Summer in Holt offers the perfect blend of outdoor adventures, community gatherings, and local flavor. Whether you’re a longtime resident or new to the area, these five activities showcase why Delhi Township has become such a desirable place to call home.

1. Paddle Along at Esker Landing Park
Nothing says summer like getting out on the water, and Esker Landing Park makes it easier than ever. The 15-acre park features a convenient kayak launch with a self-serve rental station where you can rent a kayak for just $20 for two hours using The.Real.Rent.Fun mobile app. The park represents Delhi Township’s commitment to creating outdoor spaces that make the community a desirable place to live, work, and raise a family. After your paddle, try your luck at the fishing dock!

2. Explore the Saturday Farmers Market Experience
The Holt Farmers Market isn’t just about fresh produce—it’s become the heart of the community. Open year-round on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., the market offers over twenty local food vendors, from bread and meat to honey and microgreens.

Even more magic happens during the summer Food Frenzy events, which feature live music and family entertainment. Food vendors from all around the area are there as well to provide good eats at this popular gathering, creating a vibrant atmosphere for both locals and visitors. There’s no better way to spend your summer than with your community.

3. Discover Holt’s Trail System
The Delhi Trails offer miles of scenic paths perfect for walking, biking, or jogging. Key trails include the Esker Landing Park Trail connecting Cedar Street through Esker Park southward, and the popular Ram Trail linking downtown to western Delhi Township and Holt High School.

For a longer adventure, try the Hayhoe Trail, which stretches 6 miles total to College Road in Mason. The trails connect to regional networks, including the Lansing River Trail via the Sycamore Trail, making it possible to explore far beyond Holt’s borders.

4. Enjoy Island Vibes at Summerlands Brewing

Step into a tropical paradise right in mid-Michigan at Summerlands Brewing. When Brian Hunt and Joe Prevo transformed a former tiki bar in 2024, they created more than just a craft brewery—they brought an island getaway atmosphere inspired by Hunt’s Florida roots and Texas upbringing, drawing inspiration from places like Chuy’s and Carlos n’ Charlie’s. In addition to their delicious food and drinks, Summerlands Brewing also offers live entertainment.

The brewery’s success has been immediate, going from empty to full in 45 minutes on opening day. Try their creative brews like “Playing Hooky Pale Ale” and “Tropical Storm Stout,” while certified executive chef Kevin Cronin serves up New World cuisine that perfectly complements the tropical atmosphere.

5. Experience Music in the Garden and Moonlight Movies
Summer evenings in Holt come alive with two signature outdoor entertainment series that transform Veterans Memorial Gardens into the township’s premier destination for family-friendly entertainment under the stars.

Music in the Garden brings live performances to the community every Thursday evening from July 10 through August 7, starting at 7 p.m. The free concert series showcases an impressive variety of musical talent designed to appeal to every taste. The lineup kicks off July 10 with Global Village delivering funk and R&B rhythms, followed by weekly concerts.

Moonlight Movies continues the entertainment magic at Veterans Memorial Garden on Friday evenings from July 11 through August 8, transforming the same venue into an outdoor cinema experience! Films begin at 9 p.m. or dusk, giving families time to spread out blankets and chairs for optimal viewing comfort under the starlit sky.

The movie selection balances recent blockbusters with timeless classics, ensuring entertainment for all ages. The series opens July 11 with Moana 2, and continues every Friday with movies like the musical phenomenon Wicked, Inside Out 2, The Princess Bride and Mufasa. Fresh-popped popcorn is available by donation at each screening, adding that authentic movie theater aroma to the outdoor experience.

Make this summer count with these five activities that provide just a taste of what Holt has to offer during the summer months. We hope to see you at one, two, or maybe even all the activities soon!
