Mindy Tennant has been a cornerstone of the Holt community for a quarter of a century with her charming bridal shop. Located just off the intersection of Cedar St. and Holt Rd., within the Delhi DDA district, Mindy’s Bridal Shop has become a mainstay for local brides and prom-goers alike.
After retiring from the Air Force, Tennant decided to pursue her passion for dressmaking, alterations, and “a little bit of everything” when it comes to dresses. “I’ve always been fascinated by making things,” she says. “Sewing was a hobby of my grandparents.”
Tennant’s dedication to her craft isn’t about the “big bucks,” but rather the joy of seeing her customers’ smiles. “They trust my work, and so they come back,” she explains, referencing former Holt high schoolers who have grown up and gone on to live all over the country. “I had one girl who moved to Tennessee, but she missed me, and this is what she wanted for her wedding.”
With so much experience under her belt, Mindy has become a familiar face for local kids heading to prom or homecoming. Her services range from custom builds – creating an entire garment from scratch – to ordering and altering dresses. She can also order and do some light altering on suits, though she admits, “I’ve done tailoring, it’s not for me.”
Mindy’s reputation extends far beyond Holt. “I see my former high school customers all the time, coming down from Up North, or visiting from around the Indiana border,” she says. “They’re all over Michigan.”
While Mindy prefers to let her work speak for itself, declining to pose for a photo, her impact on the community is clear. Her dedication to quality craftsmanship and personal service has made Mindy’s Bridal Shop a beloved institution in Holt for 25 years and counting.
